i thought id let you all (you all meaning probably 2 people, but i thought it sounded like i had more blog friends) that you should all start walking a whole lot more!
you see the fact of the matter is that when you are sitting at rest, your metabolic rate (the rate at which your body uses energy) is very low. this is because at rest the average person consumes 0.3 litres of oxygen per min, or 18l an hour or 432l a day, meaning your caloric expenditure is around 2,074kcal/day. (this of an average man of around 70kg.)
because of the low intake of oxygen you are only oxidising a low amount of adenosine triphosphate (energy globlets) roughly speaking meaning excess energy will be stored in other (fatty) ways.
when you stand up, you actually need to use more energy as you are holding up your own weight meaning you will oxidise more atp in order to have kinetic energy to do all the standing.
therefore if you walk something like 3 miles a day then you will be using up loads of energy by speeding up your metabolism and will definately find a massive change in fitness in a short period of time. those of you who think cycling is better than walking? around 4 times more energy is consumed walking 3 miles than cycling 3 miles and this is because when you are sat on the bike you are not holding up your body weight at the same time as exercising.
WALKING 3 MILES burns as much energy as RUNNING 3 MILES!!!!!!!
but im sure im probably preaching to the converted as you probably do lots of exercise anywho and this wont make much difference BUT if you dont exercise this small effort could help you against all kinds of cardiovascular and respiratory type problems you may encounter along your way to the crossroads.

energy globlets?
energy globlets is my phrase for adenosene triphosphate, its more like a battery pack that you chemically snap to create kinetic and heat energy, however you only use 1 phosphate and so you are left with adenosene diphosphate which cannot react to create energy for you so it goes and reacts with some PCr or phosphate creatine to gain one more phosphate and therefore it is now ready to give another phosphate for your jumping around pleasure!!!
i think this is wicked coz your body is doin this for u all day and you're not even aware of it! this is just one of many fascinating things your body does that you will never know about!
